Maddie's® Matchmaker Adoptathon, the nation's largest two-day adoption event, will be held on June 9 & 10 in Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Francisco Counties.
With the addition of San Francisco County and twenty new participating organizations, this year's event will be bigger and better than ever. It is expected that a total of 65 groups will be in 80 locations throughout the weekend. The adoption goal has been set at 3,000. (Last year 2,312 dogs and cats were placed in loving new homes.)
Pets will be free to qualified adopters, but Maddie's Fund will offer stipends to participating organizations ranging from $500 to $2,000. The Maddie's Fund "stimulus package" eases the costs of providing care for senior and treatable pets awaiting adoption. Last year, 193 dogs and cats seven years of age or older found loving new homes; 599 treatable pets with 730 medical conditions were also placed. Maddie's Fund has set aside $3 million for stipends this year!
Maddie's® Matchmaker Adoptathon is held in honor of the Foundation's namesake, a Miniature Schnauzer named Maddie. It's a celebration of the relationship between people and companion animals and a testament to what can be done when organizations come together and rally for a common cause.
