Johnny Cash may have slipped
Folsom into America’s psyche, but visitors will sing a different tune once they experience the vitality of this historic little city at the western gateway to California
Gold Country.
Water sports,
biking and hiking at nearby
Lake Natoma,
Folsom Lake State Recreation Area and along the
American River Parkway make this an outdoor-lover’s haven. With activities bridging all four seasons, any time of year is a good time to lace up your hiking boots and grab your pup for some outdoor adventures!
Folsom’s recently revitalized
historic district, centered on
Sutter Street, is great for an anytime stroll with your four-legged friend. It’s also the setting for
events that range from farmer’s markets to festivals, many of which you’re welcome to attend with Fido as your date. This November Folsom plays host to the
Splash Dogs National and take it from us, this is not to be missed. We recently saw Splash Dogs at the Bay Area Pet Fair and the high flying splash action was equally exciting for the two-legged spectators as it was for the four-legged splashers. Check back with
DogTrekker as we get closer for all the details of this high-energy event. In warm weather, the two of you can watch the world go by from a sidewalk table at
Pizzeria Classico or
Karen’s Bakery and Café, a regionally known culinary landmark with a large, dog-friendly patio.
If your pup needs to run off steam, take her to
Fido Field, unclip the leash and watch her go. When it comes time for some shut-eye, Folsom boasts three dog-friendly
hotels where you and yours can cuddle up. They include the
Lake Natoma Inn,
Larkspur Landing Folsom and the
Residence Inn Sacramento Folsom.
