Social Media and Wearable Technology

DogBook LogoSocial-media lovers have more ways to play now that apps like Dogbook, the mobile connection to Facebook’s dog community, have gained some maturity. Dogbook now claims 2 million members and counting, and its early stability problems appear to have been resolved. Use the app to locate other dog-walkers, keep a diary of your pup’s life, find parks, share photos and send out “arf” alerts to let other users know where you are.

But let’s say you know where you are, but not where your dog is hiding. Proximo, a new Bluetooth tracking tag and app ($24.99) from Kensington, lets you tap to find your pup within a prescribed proximity (the tag-sized fob lights up and beeps loudly).  It also issues an alert on your phone when your tagged pet wanders out of bounds. Have your dog but can’t find your phone? Use the tag to make your phone beep. (Works with Android Galaxy or iPhone 4S and above.) Proximo also comes in a keychain fob version.
