Dogs are welcome in the picnic areas adjacent to the bocce courts at this super dog-friendly winery in Calistoga. The resident Airedales are the inspiration behind the winery's Terrier Station Cabernet (OK, give the Grateful Dead a little credit, too). Purchase a bottle and watch Rover's reaction as you sip and bowl. Leashes are encouraged and when possible a call ahead to alert Airedales of pending four-legged company.

Gold Rush entrepreneur Sam Brannan founded Calistoga with the intent of harnessing its hot springs and making it the "Saratoga of California." In one of California history's most oft-quoted slips of the tongue, he famously uttered the words "Calistoga of Sarifornia" instead.
