There is a funny trait of many owners of deaf dogs. They tell me, as I talk kindly to their deaf dog, “My dog can't hear you,” and then they look really irritated when I continue to prattle along lovingly to their dog as I take him into the treatment room. Here's the deal. Deaf dogs may not be able to hear me, but most of them can still see me. They respond really well to body language. They can respond when I give them a pat. The holidays can be stressful and full of temptation for pets as well as people. Those friends and family you entertain can be seen as invading hordes to your dog.

All the lovely, butter-filled treats you work so hard to prepare can cause GI upset and pancreatitis in your dog. Those gorgeous decorations you work so hard to hang, can be awfully tempting to a curious canine companion. A wealth oHumboldt Shore near Moonstone beachf beaches where canines are allowed to run free within the wave slope make the Humboldt shore one of the most dog-friendly coastal areas in California. A favorite with locals  is Clam Beach in McKinleyville, the perfect end point for a hike along the five-mile  Hammond Coastal Trail, voted in a recent newspaper poll as best place to hike in Humboldt County. North of Arcata,  Highway 101 hugs the continent’s edge all the way to Trinidad, where dog-friendly Moonstone Beach offers gorgeous vistas of rugged headlands and rocky coves.  more »
