Cabins in the Woods

By: DogTrekker Staff

Tahoma Meadows Bed & Breakfast Cottages on Tahoe's West Shore is one of those semi-secret places that has developed a loyal following among outdoorsy couples and families traveling with their four-legged friends. Proprietors Dick and Ulli White found their niche some years ago when they started allowing canines (fee is $15 per night), and their website's pet page is loaded with suggestions on places to go and things to do with Fido.

At the top of their West Shore winter list: Meeks Bay or Blackwood Canyon for entry-level cross-country skiing and snowshoeing; Paige Meadows for intermediates. For directions and more suggestions, ask at the desk for a copy of the booklet "Adventures with your Dog at Lake Tahoe."

Heading south, Sorensen's, an all-season resort 20 miles south of Tahoe on Highway 88, is a cluster of Christmas-card worthy cabins ideally positioned for recreational pursuits in gorgeous Hope Valley. Cross-country skiing is the main attraction, and Rover is welcome to lope alongside as you kick and glide. Eight pet-friendly cabins accommodate canine companions at no extra charge.
