Gov. Gavin Newsom has ordered everyone in California to stay home; with the exception of essential workers, to pick up groceries and prescriptions, and health care visits for you or your pet. Also exempted from that order is getting out into the fresh air with your entire family, including your pups.

We all know how much dogs help us humans with stress in our daily lives. Walking or hiking with your dog at least once per day is not only good for you and your canine's mental health, it is very important for everyone's physical health. Officials of park and open space districts around the state understand this and are doing everything they can to keep as many trails open as possible.

It is up to all of us to follow the rules these districts have imposed, which includes #SocialDistancing for people and pups (keeping all dogs on leash at all times); avoiding heavily trafficked trails; pack in, pack out, Leaving Only Paw Prints; and remember to smile and wave as you pass your fellow dog parent. Here are the latest updates for park and open space districts across the state.

During these difficult times, you can rely on DogTrekker to provide the most up-to-date information from parks and open space districts. To find the best way to get to your local hikes, be sure to download the latest version of the DogTrekker mobile app.
