Meet Goose, a pretty 2-year-old Siberian husky mix who's currently residing with Helen Woodward Animal Center. A nice medium size at 42 pounds, she's a smart, high-energy young girl. She'll do best with a husky-savvy person who can give her the exercise and guidance she needs. She'll be happy to accompany you on long walks, scenic hikes, morning jogs… you get the idea. The Animal Center (which currently has quite a few cute puppies for adoption also) was founded on the philosophy of "people helping animals and animals helping people." It's been making a crucial difference in the lives of San Diego County's animals for over 45 years, both with its rescue and adoption work and with a wide range of community programs offering education, enrichment, therapeutic programs, and critical support in time of need. Especially when it requires a bit of innovative thinking, like the Pets Without Walls program, providing vet care to the pets of San Diego's homeless residents. Or The Business of Saving Lives workshops, a free program for animal welfare folks to learn best practices based on the Animal Center's accumulated wisdom.

Or sometimes, being willing to go the extra distance for a dog who needs it. When Brandy, a tiny puppy pulled from a high-kill SoCal shelter, proved to have been born with a luxating patella, the Animal Center focused not just on keeping her safe, but giving her the best possible future with orthopedic surgery. She's now making a great recovery in her foster home, where you can follow her story.
