This hip, happening and very dog-friendly Sonoma County town makes a great base for forays into the Russian River wine country, but there are so many dog-friendly restaurants and tasting rooms in town that you might not even make it that far. Go now, before tourist season heats up, to get great rates at dog-friendly lodging properties such as the Best Western Plus Dry Creek Inn, where newly renovated, dog-friendly rooms (think motel-style, opening onto the parking lot of quick exits with Trixie), go for as little as $59 per night midweek.

At the stylish h2hotel near the downtown plaza, you’ll save 20 percent through March on all room types when staying two nights Sunday-Thursday (pet fee is $99). The Healdsburg Inn welcomes four-legged guests for a fee of $65 per stay, while the Camellia Inn, a luxurious, Victorian-era bed-and-breakfast, accepts well behaved pooches at no extra charge.

Wherever you stay, be sure to stop by the Healdsburg Dog House and treat your pup to a cup of lap-happy doggie ice cream.
