Big old dogs who find themselves homeless face an especially bleak future in most shelters just because they're seniors. For those lucky enough to be taken in by Lily's Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary, however, life takes a big turn for the better. Honoring the memory of sweet senior Golden Lily, the rescue provides a safe landing place for the large canine oldsters, where they enjoy lots of TLC from human volunteer caretakers, and get needed medical care and nourishing food in warm, comfortable surroundings while they wait for their forever homes. At the sanctuary these lucky seniors enjoy big yards for play and training, and a quiet isolation area for dogs who require medical treatment or hospice care.

Currently waiting is the extremely cute shepherd mix Jake, who's around 11 or 12, but still a happy, healthy guy who loves to go for short walks and thinks snuggling with his humans is just the best. Found as a stray in the Central Valley, Jake has been enjoying life at Lily's while he waits for the family who'll love him forever.

Coming up Sunday June 8, 2014 from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the Sanctuary is the "Music for Mutts" fundraising concert, an afternoon of outstanding entertainment from three of the country's most talented and respected singer/songwriters, the Bay Area's own Steve Seskin and Nashville colleagues Julia Sinclair and Jesse Terry. They'll be singing their songs and telling their stories — be there, enjoy a great musical afternoon, and help old dogs enjoy their golden years surrounded by love and comfort!
