The Ididarod it’s not, but the 1,000-mile Alaska canine marathon, which kicked off March 2 and will take mushers an estimated nine to 16 days to complete, will be in the back of everyone’s minds as the 10th annual takes place March 9 at Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area at Lake Tahoe.
No advance preparation is required—although it helps—for this fun and entertaining event pitting dogs of all shapes and sizes in a timed dog-pull race. Dogs will pull weighted wagon sleds over a snow-covered course with spectators cheering them on. Prizes are awarded to the speediest finishers among four weight divisions.

Want to put Daisy to the test? Registration takes place at noon, the race starts at 1 p.m. and entry fee is $20. Participants and spectators can win great prizes through a raffle benefiting the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe.

Donner Downhill Ski Area’s bar will be open for the purchase of beverages and snacks. The event is part of North Lake Tahoe’s SnowFest 2014, in progress now and continuing through March 9.
