Founded in 1894, the Sacramento SPCA takes in pets in need from the area and provides a safe, nurturing place for them until their forever home comes along. Through its spay/neuter clinic and other services, it also helps provide a safety net that reduces overpopulation and increases public awareness of animal welfare issues. A privately funded organization, it relies on donations from supporters to care for its charges and contracts with Elk Grove and Rancho Cordova to house their communities' strays.
Over the holidays Sacramento SPCA partnered with three other local agencies, Sacramento Animal Care Services, Sacramento County Animal Care & Regulation, and Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary, to find homes for 1,000 homeless pets in the Home for the Holidays campaign. Now they're gearing up for a two-day Mega Adoptathon at the end of March in conjunction with the ASPCA.
One of their current guests looking for a home is Jada, a friendly, people-loving pit mix girl who loves to chase tennis balls. She has good leash manners and loves to go for walks, and could do well as an "only child" in an adult home with no other cats or dogs. Being 6 years old, she also qualifies for SSPCA's fee-waived Seniors for Seniors adoption program if you happen to be a senior yourself.
