California’s North Coast is a magical place made more magical still with the 2014 incorporation of Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands, a 1,132-acre coastal preserve in Mendocino County that you and your leashed dog are welcome to explore at your scenic-overload leisure. Your four-legged companion may not appreciate the passing gray and humpback whales that so captivate her people, but a whiff of the sea lions lolling on the foamy shore beneath dramatic, seaside bluffs will certainly cause ears to perk and tail to wag.

DogTrekker.com ranks the North Coast as a one of the state’s top dog-friendly destinations, and recommends Fort Bragg in Mendocino County as a great place to hang your hat (and leash) during a visit to the region. Many dog-friendly trails and beaches are within easy striking distance, while the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens and the historic Skunk Train  offer other options for visitors who don’t want to leave their best friends behind.

Great dog-friendly places to stay in Fort Bragg include sister properties Beachcomber Motel & Spa and nearby Surf & Sand Lodge. The former, just steps from the waterfront, recently introduced “pet suites” with private outdoor kennels, along with a dog park just for guests. Its location is right next to the Pudding Creek Trestle and Ten Mile Beach Trail, ideal for DogTrekkers who want to put some scenic miles under their paws. The Surf & Sand Lodge, also just steps from the sea, features private balconies, dramatic ocean views and a warm welcome for pets.

Like to try them out? Each property is providing a DogTrekker.com DogCation for the month of January. You and your pups can win a two-night stay simply by entering here.  Both Beachcomber and Surf & Sand also are offering Barking BOGO Deals featuring a second night free with purchase of one night in a pet-friendly room. We can’t think of a more perfect getaway for you and your significant others, two-legged and four.
