Sacramento’s mild climate means many dog-friendly restaurant patios are open (almost) year-round. We can’t guarantee the heaters will be fired up or the tables set on the day of your midwinter visit, but we can offer some best bets, especially in the Downtown Grid, which includes the thriving Midtown residential and commercial district. You’re almost guaranteed to spot dogs at the sidewalk tables at popular Café Bernardo, especially at breakfast and during happy hour. Ditto the patio tables at Rubicon Brewing Company, where the atmosphere is always lively and the burgers are as good as the seasonal microbrews. For fancier fare, head to trendy Del Paso Boulevard and check out the gorgeous, dog-friendly garden patio at Enotria, a restaurant and wine bar whose slogan, “food made for wine made for food,” only hints at staff’s expertise when it comes to pairing what you drink and eat. Trolling around downtown with your pooch? A sure bet when it comes to chow is River City Brewing Company in Westfield Downtown Plaza. Yes, it might seem weird to go to a shopping mall with your dog, but this one is open-air and offers great people-watching as well as satisfying microbrews, burgers, pasta and such served at dog-friendly patio tables.
Headed for a park before or after your pause for refreshment? You can walk from Orphan Breakfast House to McKinley Park — and you’ll want to, especially if you fill up on the yummy sweet corn breakfast tamales. Bella Bru’s four locations in the greater Sacramento area offer more dog-friendly options for breakfast and lunch fare.
