You know that you and your four-legged companion have arrived at the right lodging place when you’re greeted with treats at the desk and the room comes with dog bed, bowls and other pet-pampering amenities. There’s no shortage of dog passionate hotels on the Mendo coast. Here are a few of our favorites.

Stanford Inn by the Sea is a luxury eco-resort on a bluff overlooking the blue crescent of Mendocino Bay. Amenities for humans are many, including an indoor pool, hot tub and sauna, plus a fireplace, private deck, free wi-fi, big-screen TV, coffeemaker and refrigerator in every room. Dogs get almost as many treats, including beds, bowls and “dog sheets” to protect the furniture. A dog-friendly activity guide is also provided to lead you on your way.

A family owned, Victorian-era confection overlooking the sea, Little River Inn has greeted guests for five generations. All 65 rooms have ocean views, and many have fireplaces and hot tubs, as well. For dogs, there are designated walk areas, cover sheets for furniture, water and food bowls, waste bags and treats.

In Fort Bragg, the Beachcomber group of properties offer variety and value close to the sea. The Beachcomber Motel itself is a luxury motel that offers panoramic views, fire pits and “pet suites” (rooms that open onto a deck with dog house and pet shower) with direct access to the property’s leash-free dog park. The nearby, pet-friendly, 30-room Beach House Inn is just a 500-foot walk from the shore and comes with many amenities, including soaking tubs for two. So close to the sea you’ll be lulled to sleep by the shushing surf, is Surf & Sand Lodge, walking distance to downtown Fort Bragg as well as water’s edge.
