Are dogs welcome at Orange County’s outdoor holiday events? You bet your sweet tail-wagger they are. We’ve sniffed out a few highlights that both you and Nipper can enjoy:
Dec. 2: The 59th annual (and very pet-friendly) Hospitality Night in Laguna Beach will be celebrated from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a pepper-tree lighting, Victorian carolers, tamale sales, festive shopping and more along Forest Avenue, which will be cordoned off for the event.
Dec. 3: Bring your pet to Dana Point Harbor, have a keepsake picture made and know that the $15 fee benefits the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter.
Dec. 4: Santa Claus makes an appearance at the Yappy Howl-iday Celebration set for Dec. 4 at the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel. Bring a gift of dog food or toys to be donated to a local animal shelter and have your picture made with the Big Man.
Dec. 4: More than 40 pet rescue groups will offer some 600 dogs, cats and rabbits for adoption at the City of Irvine’s Pet Adoption Fair.
Dec. 10: Laguna Niguel’s “Home for the Holidays” parade features equestrian units, youth groups, military tributes, classic auto clubs and more along a dog-friendly route.
Dec. 14: Waggin’ Trails Holiday Party at the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach promises a doggone good time with food, wine, beer, raffle prizes, dog costume contest and live music, all benefiting the Waggin' Trails Rescue Foundation.
Dec. 14-18: The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade is a spectacle, all right. You can view the 108th annual procession of decorated yachts, boats, kayaks and canoes from almost anyplace along the shore for free, or opt for a rental or private charter to accommodate you and your best friends.
