Holiday parades and light displays are part and parcel of the American holiday experience, with cities and towns large and small getting into the illuminated holiday spirit. Here are three dog-friendly displays for you and Murphy to view:
San Francisco: Thirty-five light-art installations by 31 artists in 12 neighborhoods combine to create Illuminate SF, a self-guided holiday light show in place through New Year’s Day. Leash your pup and join the fun that’s glowing on!
Sacramento: Theatre of Lights in Old Sacramento is a free, 20-minute sound-and-light show staged on the balconies and facades of the historic district’s Gold Rush-era buildings. This year’s story line is a live-action retelling of the 1823 poem “A Visit From St. Nicholas.” The production will be staged at 6:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. on weekends and some weekdays from Nov. 23 through Dec. 24.
: Art—or is it junk?—is the name of the game at Robolights, artist Kenny Irwin Jr.’s fantastical sci-fi meets winter wonderland installation. Hundreds of thousands of twinkle lights draw aahhs, and it’s free (donations welcome). Evenings through Jan. 3.
