Kayla enjoying the Christmas Tree at Stanford Inn.
The holidays have arrived at one of Mendocino’s favorite dog-friendly inns, Stanford Inn by the Sea. Kayla, DogTrekker.com’s Director of Barketing, was on hand last weekend as the finishing touches of holiday cheer were added to the inn’s lobby, restaurant, bar and 40 dog-friendly guest rooms. Driving up to the property after dark, with lights twinkling on the roof lines and surrounding trees, one has the feeling that Santa’s helpers just may have done some advance work this far south.
“Pets welcome” is not just a saying at the Stanford Inn. It’s a decades-old commitment from owners Joan and Jeff Stanford. Every room is dog friendly, with no breed or size restrictions. Upon arrival, dogs are provided easily digested sweet potato treats, protective bed sheets, stainless-steel water and food bowls and Intelligent Products pick-up bags. Trash receptacles are conveniently located throughout the nine-acre property. For breakfast (included in the rates) and dinner, well-behaved dogs may join their people at special tables in the lobby, just outside the main dining room. The ability to lounge with her owners while they eat is one of Kayla’s favorite things about the Stanford Inn.
To celebrate this holiday season, the Stanford Inn is hosting DogTrekker.com’s DogCation for December. Enter the contest for a chance to win a two-night stay with your dogs with complimentary breakfasts, waived pet fees and the amenities detailed above. Link here to enter.
Adjacent to the Stanford Inn, outfitter Catch-A-Canoe & Bicycles Too rents dog-friendly watercraft for exploring the Big River estuary. New to the fleet is the Canine Cruiser, the 19th handmade redwood outrigger in Catch-A-Canoe’s eclectic collection of kayaks and canoes. A roomy and stable platform in the center of the craft can accommodate up to four canine passengers, allowing them to sit, stand or lie down as the scenery slides by.
