Since we last checked in with Animal Friends Rescue Project in Pacific Grove, they've had the same experience as many shelters and rescues in California--they've been swamped with abandoned Chihuahuas in need of homes through no fault of their own. Luckily for the needy little ones, Animal Friends are an innovative bunch; for some years now their Life Link Transport program has been transporting dogs, almost all of them small, to shelters in Oregon and Washington, where they are quickly adopted. Currently the program is saving almost 1,800 dogs per year.

But it doesn't stop there. Throughout April, Animal Friends has been celebrating Chihuahua Month with reduced adoption fees and a big Chi-esta this Saturday, April 28, where AFRP will join other local animal welfare organizations in celebrating the Chihuahua with raffle prizes, fun activities, vet talks, photo ops, and of course adoptable dogs.

Among the little ones looking for a home is Tessie here, an affectionate little girl. Now 8 months old, she got a rough start, abandoned behind a Walmart in Salinas, but has learned that life has better things in store at Animal Friends. Find out more about her here.
