The city of Sacramento maintains nine fenced dog parks within the city limits, while a half-dozen more beckon in nearby suburbs. All have drinking water, but some are closed on rainy days to prevent turf damage and accidents caused by slipping on wet ground.
A good choice during mud season is Sutter's Landing Dog Park, a new, 2.5-acre facility on a reclaimed landfill close enough to downtown to have a good skyline view. Just minutes from Interstate 5 or Business 80, it boasts an all-weather surface (decomposed granite and chipped bark) and separate play areas for large and small dogs. For leashed walks with a view, a section of the 32-mile American River Parkway is just a quarter-mile stroll away.
