After Labor Day, tourist crowds vanish from Lake Tahoe and locals take a breather. DogTrekking visitors can take a deep breath, too, with easy-to-get reservations at pet-friendly properties including North Shore fave Holiday House, an affordable find offering six pet-friendly lakefront suites with kitchens in Tahoe Vista.
Also in Tahoe Vista, travelers with smaller (under 30 pounds) pups can bask in a beautifully renovated room at Cedar Glen Lodge, where continental breakfast is included in the rates and a beach is just across the road. All makes and models of canines are welcome at nearby Rustic Cottages and sister property Tahoe Vista Lodge & Cabins, also within walking distance of Big Blue.
Taking top West Shore honors in the “cozy” category is pet-friendly Tahoma Meadows B&B Cottages, long popular with outdoorsy types (even if you don’t stay here, do check out their website’s “pet info” pages for suggestions on adventures to enjoy together). Moving south, Spruce Grove Tahoe Cabins near Heavenly Mountain Resort is a cluster of seven vacation rentals decorated in a vintage theme. Nearby Holly’s Place is favored by DogTrekkers not just for the reasonably priced cabin accommodations, but because the two-acre property is securely fenced and it’s OK for well behaved canines to accompany their people off-leash.
On the splurge end of the spectrum, Fireside Lodge B&B, also in South Lake Tahoe, pampers with river-rock fireplaces, knotty pine woodwork, luxury furnishings and owners happy to help you plan activities to enjoy with your pet. For location, value and convenience, it’s hard to beat Zephyr Cove Resort, a cluster of cabins, most with kitchens, in a scenic lakeshore setting on the Nevada side of the lake, just minutes from the South Lake Tahoe entertainment district.Posted on: June 29, 2022
