The small but dog-friendly campground here is open only in summer, but it's a winner for "urban campers" who don't mind a little daytime road noise.

A lakeshore bike/hike trial runs right through it, and the location in the middle of town means you can walk to restaurants and even the Safeway grocery store.

The shoreline here is rocky, but there are great photo opps to be had from the park's long pier.

Most hikes around Lake Tahoe—and there are hundreds—can be enjoyed with your best friend.
