Bishop Peak Trail

Bishop Peak Trail

Discover Bishop Peak, the tallest of the Nine Sisters, a stunning chain of volcanic Morros that grace the landscape of San Luis Obispo. This iconic mountain, with its distinctive rocky crown resembling a bishop’s miter, offers breathtaking panoramic views of both the city and the surrounding peaks. Plus, it’s a dog-friendly destination, so don’t forget to bring water for both you and your dog. Your dog will need to be on a leash with you on this trail.

Embark on a rewarding adventure along the single-track trail leading to the 1,559-foot summit. While it may be demanding, the hike is truly excellent, promising an unforgettable experience.

The journey from the trailhead at the top of Highland Drive to the Bishop Peak summit covers 3.5 miles round trip and includes a 950-foot elevation gain. Alternatively, you can opt for the trailhead on Patricia Drive, which offers a slightly longer hike, measuring 4.2 miles round trip with a 1,175-foot elevation change. These trails are designed for adventurers seeking a challenge.

When you get to the top, you’ll be greeted by two inviting benches at the top of the Bishop Peak Trail. Take a moment to rest here or venture higher up the rocks to the west or east for the most awe-inspiring vistas. For the adventurous and agile hikers, the nearby summit to the right can be easily conquered, offering a sweeping panorama that includes views of Cal Poly, downtown San Luis Obispo, Cerro San Luis, Laguna Lake, the Santa Lucia Mountains, and everything in between. Enjoy this dog-friendly adventure with your four-legged friend and enjoy the natural beauty of Bishop Peak.
