Castle Rock Trail

Castle Rock Trail

Big Bear Lake has many trails, the most popular of which is the Castle Rock trail. The Castle Rock Trailhead is conveniently located 1.1 miles east of Big Bear Dam on State Highway 18, or 3 miles west of Big Bear Lake Village. There’s parking available 50 yards east of the trailhead, on the north side of the highway, and you won’t need an Adventure Pass to park here. Look for the small sign that marks the entrance to the Castle Rock Trailhead across the highway.

The trail isn’t long, but it offers a rewarding challenge with an elevation gain of 500 feet. The initial 0.5 mile is a steep climb, which then transitions into a less steep path for the next 0.5 mile. As you make your way up, you’ll be greeted by stunning views of the lake and the surrounding forests of pines, white firs, and cedars.

Dogs are welcome to join this hike, making it a great opportunity for your pets to explore the outdoors with you. The Castle Rock trail is ideal for those seeking both a physical challenge and a chance to enjoy the natural beauty of the area with their furry friends. Whether you’re in search of exercise or a tranquil retreat into nature, this trail is sure to provide a memorable experience.
