Follow part of the path of the "Old Diggings," or Quartz Hill Railroad. The long-abandoned, narrow-gauge railroad was a critical transportation link that once supplied quartz to area copper smelters. The trail traverses many cuts through bedrock where a steam engine once ran.
Span in your imagination where trestles once crossed above steep drainages, and look for signs of historic residences that housed local workers employed in mining. Many vistas of Keswick Reservoir, along with seasonal wildflower displays, also are yours to enjoy.
Distance: 4 miles from Quartz Hll Road to Lower Sacramento Ditch Trail
Drinking Water: Yes, at Quart Hill Railroad trailhead
