This popular 375-acre park includes a 25-acre lake, picnic areas, an off-leash (but not fenced) dog-play area and several hiking trails.

The lake has almost dried up after three years of drought, but when full is used for fishing, stand-up paddle boarding, row-boating and bird watching. Laguna Lake Open Space, adjacent to the park, offers additional areas in which to roam with your dog.

San Luis Obispo County encompasses just about everything California is known for, from mountains to ocean to wine country to laid-back vibe. Sure, you can shoot down from the Bay Area on Interstate 5 and Highway 46, but it’s much more rewarding to take the slow lane (Highway 101) all the way to Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo and beyond. more »

San Luis Obispo, home to California Polytechnic State University, is a quintessential college town nestled in a sea of hills just 10 miles from the Pacific coast. It has just about everything going for it so far as DogTrekkers are concerned, from dog-friendly hotels and restaurants to dog parks and historic sites including a Spanish mission dating to 1772 and an 1850s adobe home whose alluring gardens are open to canine visitors with people on the other end of the leash. Even SLOMA, the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, is happy to host leashed dogs and their owners during regular business hours.  more »
