Directions:
Take I-10 Several miles past Indio , heading east. Take the 86 Expressway exit towards Brawley. After turning right onto the 86 Expressway, travel nearly 10 miles to 62nd Ave. Turn left onto 62nd Ave. and drive several miles until reaching Johnson St. Turn right and drive several miles to 66th Ave. Turn left onto 66th Ave. (Box Canyon Rd.) Proceed almost 5 miles past many grape and citrus ranches, and over the All American Canal. Go 2.4 miles past the green Painted Canyon sign, staying on the paved Box Canyon Road.
There is usually a flat break in the dirt border along the road where you can turn left (after 2.4 miles) and drive on the hard pack dirt 50 yards to the large row of boulders blocking vehicles from entering the canyon.
