Stow Lake

Stow Lake

Boating on this Golden Gate Park lake has been a popular pasttime since the Victorian era. It’s also said to be haunted by the “Lady of Stow Lake,”  a distraught mother who in the late 1800s jumped in the water to save her toddler, who had fallen in. In September 2011 the boating operation shut down after 68 years with one local franchisee. The new operator does not allow dogs, but there’s still lots to sniff and see (including ducks and geese) around the shoreline. Dogs are to be leashed when walking around the lake.

Please help protect the environment and be respectful to others enjoying this area by keeping your dog on leash and cleaning up after your dog.
