Del Mar North Beach

Del Mar North Beach

Del Mar North Beach, affectionately known by locals and visitors as “Dog Beach,” presents a splendid blend of coastal charm and pet-friendly hospitality. Situated north of 29th Street and stretching towards the Solana Beach border, this picturesque locale offers about half a mile of sandy expanse where dogs are free to roam off-leash during the less crowded months from the day after Labor Day to June 15th. During the summer months, from June 16th to Labor Day, restrictions are in place allowing dogs off-leash only from dawn until 8 AM, after which they must be leashed as the beach becomes busier.

Beyond its golden sands, Dog Beach is surrounded by natural beauty and recreational opportunities. The adjacent James Scripps Bluff Preserve offers hiking trails that ascend to overlooks providing panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean—perfect for a leisurely stroll with your furry friend. For those who enjoy water sports, the area is also known for its surf-friendly waves near the river mouth and northern reefs. Dog owners are reminded to bring essentials like water and waste bags to ensure a pleasant and clean experience for everyone. The blend of accessible beachfront, pet-friendly policies, and ample amenities like volleyball courts and nearby parking makes Del Mar North Beach an ideal destination for beachgoers looking to enjoy the sun, surf, and sand with their canine companions

Also known as North Beach, this half-mile stretch is ideal for dogs of all sizes. There are some leash requirements, so it is best to check the signs at the entrance to the beach.
