Located just 100 miles from Los Angeles, Big Bear Lake puts winter adventure within easy reach of many Southern California travelers. Check into the Holiday Inn Resort Big Bear Lake, cabins at Big Bear Frontier, or other properties that accommodate four-legged family members. Swing by the Big Bear Visitor Center for maps and dog-friendly travel ideas. Then, start exploring.

DogTrekker readers love Big Bear Lake’s solo and guided snowshoeing options. Bring your own gear or rent from local outfitters like Goldsmith’s Sports. For the best conditions and scenery, head to Fern Trail, Skyline or other south shore trails.

Skiing and snow tubing are big draws here, too. While dogs aren’t permitted in paid tubing areas at places like Alpine Slide and Grizzly Ridge, leashed pups are welcome in pretty Boulder Bay Park. You can also stroll together on the Towne Trail, following a somewhat hilly route from the Snow Summit parking lot, or the Alpine Pedal Path on Big Bear Lake’s north shore.

Pets can join people at several dog-friendly area venues, including Big Bear Mountain Brewery, Peppercorn Grille and Alpine Country Coffee Shop.
