Plenty of businesses here roll out individual specials and events throughout the harvest festival, which coincides with Mendocino County’s mushroom season. This special time starts with the first inch of October rain and stretches into springtime. Boletes (porcinis) and chanterelles typically pop up first, followed by candy caps, hedgehogs and black trumpets later in the season. Morels and black truffles that grow above ground appear in the spring.
Forage with experienced naturalists on the Stanford Inn’s Mushroom Exploration Tour and Nature Walk, and save time for on-property events like a medicinal mushroom breakfast, garden tours and mushroom tasting menus at Ravens Restaurant.
