Butte Humane Society 2019

A vibrant dog park bathed in sunlight features abundant greenery with mature trees, offering ample shade for leisurely outdoor activities. In the distance is a well-equipped playground that presents an additional activity area. An inviting picnic table spreads out nearby, ideal for enjoying meals al fresco or taking relaxing breaks from play. A neatly-placed trash bin aids in maintaining the park's cleanliness for everyone's enjoyment. Dominating the scene is a generously wide dirt path gracefully curving through the expanse of grass, promising exploratory walks and lively fetch games.

Here’s Cruiser, a happy, playful Lab/pit mix guy who, like lots of other dogs, lost his home due to the Camp Fire. Luckily for him he landed with the good folks at Butte Humane Society in Chico, where he’s waiting for his new folks to come find him.

At 3, he’s a big, energetic guy who loves affection and also loves getting out for fun exercise. He has developed excellent house-training skills. An adult home would be best for him because he’s a bit exuberant for smaller people; he’s very anxious to please and do the right thing, but needs an experienced human to show him how it’s done. A person who’s home a lot, even better. Cruiser has a lot of love to share with his new people (and maybe another dog, too), and hopes you’ll be getting in touch soon.

Taking care of Cruiser and other critters in the wake of the catastrophic fire has been a huge task for Butte Humane, whose work with first responders and other rescue agencies made a life-saving difference for so many families. Even now, as people in the region still deal with hard times, Butte Humane’s food bank helps ensure that non-human family members get the healthy food they need to thrive. Also, Butte Humane continues to provide free veterinary care (spay/neuter, vaccinations, preventatives and health exams) to families affected by the Camp Fire, through 2019.

Since 1911 they’ve been able to do essential work despite antiquated, scattered facilities, and are now working toward the future with plans for a new state-of-the-art facility that will be a hub for animal welfare for the region, and provide rescue and adoption services, affordable veterinary care to the public, a humane education center, community dog parks and more.

It’ll be an open, spacious place for animals to get the care they need, interact with people in the community, and  generally be happy and stress-free while waiting for their new family to find them.

Meanwhile, Cruiser would love to hear from you.
