When it comes to dog-friendly wineries, Suisun Valley wineries in Solano County are just a hop-skip away from Vacaville, San Francisco and Sacramento. This unpretentious “Rustic Wine Country” is one of California’s best-kept secrets and holds many surprises, including regional parks, a half-dozen dog-friendly tasting rooms and lots of farm-stands selling fresh regional produce.
Start getting acquainted with Suisun Valley wines on the dog-friendly patio at Wooden Valley Winery outside Fairfield, where the Lanza family has been processing fruit of the vine for three generations. At BackRoad Vines, your pup can join you in outside seating areas or on the bocce court, while at the Blue Victorian, you’ll be impressed with the architecture as well as with the wines in what the Vezer family dubs the “petit sirah capital of the world.”
On the produce-stand front, don’t miss a stop at regionally famous Larry’s Produce, overflowing in fall with so many good things you’ll want to transport the goodies, including really big pumpkins, in one of the wheelbarrows parked out front. (Your dog, unfortunately, will have to wait in the car, so do find a shady place to park.)
