Shell Beach, The Sea Ranch

The Shell Beach Coastal Access Trail, part of the Sea Ranch public access areas in Sonoma County, offers a picturesque .65-mile path through pine forests and meadows, leading to a sandy beach adorned with sea rocks and tide pools. Accessible from Highway 1, this trail is suited for various activities including hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing, and features a ramp for small boats to reach the ocean. The trail system emphasizes conservation, requesting visitors to adhere to marked paths to protect the natural environment and private property.

Facilities at the trail are minimal, with pit toilets available, and parking is free. The trail is open daily from 6 a.m. to sunset during the summer and from 8 a.m. to sunset in the winter. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet. For those planning a visit, it’s advisable to wear comfortable, trail-appropriate footwear and dress in layers due to the coastal climate.

More information about the public access trail and its amenities and the beach at Sea Ranch can be found on the Sonoma County Regional Parks website or through the Sonoma County tourism portal.
