Marin county parks

By: DogTrekker Staff
A vibrant dog park bathed in sunlight features abundant greenery with mature trees, offering ample shade for leisurely outdoor activities. In the distance is a well-equipped playground that presents an additional activity area. An inviting picnic table spreads out nearby, ideal for enjoying meals al fresco or taking relaxing breaks from play. A neatly-placed trash bin aids in maintaining the park's cleanliness for everyone's enjoyment. Dominating the scene is a generously wide dirt path gracefully curving through the expanse of grass, promising exploratory walks and lively fetch games.

What would Marin County be without its parks? Forty years ago, as residents watched subdivisions creep up hillsides and across ridges, local leaders started a heroic movement to preserve natural lands and family farms—a movement that resulted in the creation of the Marin County Open Space District. The district, together with the county parks department, is now known as Marin County Parks.

Marin hikes are the most viewed activity month after month on DogTrekker.com, for good reason. Today, the Marin County Open Space District administers 34 preserves—all but one of them dog-friendly—totaling more than 200 miles of trails for locals and visitors to enjoy. To find a park or open space, check out the guide on DogTrekker.com, which includes descriptions, distances, difficulty levels, maps and more.
