Explore Sacramento and folsom

Colonial architecture in Old Sacramento Historic District

No, gold wasn’t found in dog-friendly Sacramento or Folsom. But both cities played huge roles in the Gold Rush as supply centers, and both celebrate that legacy today. Old Sacramento and the Folsom Historic District are great places to explore with your pooch. Browse the shops, soak up some history and enjoy a meal at a patio café before heading out for a stroll along the American River or a day on an area lake.

Old Sacramento offers numerous outdoor dining possibilities, great river views, ample outdoor seating, hiking or biking on a waterfront trail and trips over the Tower Bridge to a riverfront esplanade in West Sacramento. In Folsom, regular art walks, festivals and other community events are held along a recently revitalized Sutter Street. The cities are connected by the American River Parkway, a 32-mile greenbelt hugging the river from Old Sacramento to Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, a vast summer playground for humans and canines alike.
