Take a national seashore, cross it with some intriguing history, add luxury cottages, an oyster bar and restaurant. Give it a shake and what do you get? Nick’s Cove Restaurant, Oyster Bar & Cottages, a dog-friendly, boutique resort on Tomales Bay in Marin County, just outside Point Reyes National Seashore. Nick's Cove is one of the last remaining historic settlements catering to the early California tourist trade on the beautiful Tomales Bay coast land. Book direct and save.

Seven of Nick’s 12 cottages are dog-friendly, but with tons of amenities to enjoy, two-legged guests don’t get shorted. Room amenities include down comforters, wood-burning fireplaces and heated bathroom floors, while dog amenities include beds, dishes and treats. Four-leggers are welcome to join their uprights on a waterfront patio along the pier, which is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktail hour.

Menu selections, showcasing the bounty of local farmers and fishermen, will leave you panting for more, and now some of them (along with many others) have been memorialized in a new cookbook, “Table With a View: The History and Recipes of Nick’s Cove,” written by resort proprietor Dena Grunt and published by Cameron & Company. The culinary history of Nick’s celebrates the historic restaurant, bar and award-winning farm-to-table cuisine, replete with recipes handed down from resort chefs.

So what’s to do in the area besides eat, drink, sleep and water-watch? Stop in Point Reyes Station and stock up on picnic fare at Cowgirl Creamery, famous for its Organic Artisan cheeses. Then head to Limantour Beach, Dillon Beach or other dog-friendly strands where your pup can run and splash.
