There’s nothing more quintessentially Big Bear than staying in a cabin. Fortunately for DogTrekkers like us, there is no shortage of cabin rental options, be it on the lake or in the woods. Some are run like traditional hotels, while others are managed by vacation rental companies. Expect cozy charm and standalone lodgings well-stocked for mountain living.
Every October, Hillcrest Suites & Cabins extends a 15% discount on rooms and 50% off pet fees if you bring a dog adopted from a shelter or dog rescue—all you have to do is show the paperwork. The standard fee is $45 per pet per stay and up to two dogs can come along. Ideal for a larger group, The Blissful Bear cabin can accommodate up to 16 guests and animal companions for a $50 per pet surcharge. Dogs must be fully house-trained (puppies under one must be kenneled) and proof of flea treatment is required.
The historic log cabins at Embers Lodge were built in the 1950s to house film stars and production crews shooting on location in Big Bear Lake—if these walls could talk! Pet-friendly units ($25 nightly fee per pet, 25 pounds maximum) have fireplaces, full kitchens and grills. Book one of the pet-friendly cottages ($15 per night, 150 pounds maximum) with fenced yards at Golden Bear Cottages, a five-acre retreat surrounded by towering pine trees.
Big Bear Vacations has more than 350 cabin listings on its booking engine including Shore Acres Lodge, a collection of pet-friendly cabin vacation rentals where you and your pup can bask in the sun by the lake; call to enquire about fees.
