Mendocino county ‘hole in one’

By: DogTrekker Staff
A vibrant dog park bathed in sunlight features abundant greenery with mature trees, offering ample shade for leisurely outdoor activities. In the distance is a well-equipped playground that presents an additional activity area. An inviting picnic table spreads out nearby, ideal for enjoying meals al fresco or taking relaxing breaks from play. A neatly-placed trash bin aids in maintaining the park's cleanliness for everyone's enjoyment. Dominating the scene is a generously wide dirt path gracefully curving through the expanse of grass, promising exploratory walks and lively fetch games.

The Madrones, an Italian-style enclave in the Mendocino County town of Philo, is a multifaceted destination with a tasting room, five pet-friendly “guest quarters,” a wellness spa and a dog-friendly restaurant, Wickson Restaurant, specializing in wood-fired cuisine.

Chef Jason Azevedo joins the restaurant with a specialty in Iberian peninsula cusine, fusing the flavors of Spain, Portugal and France while melding locally sourced ingredients. With extensive experience in wood fired cooking, he will be offering modern Mediterranean dishes.

Indoor dining and seasonal al fresco dinning is offered on our central courtyard. The recently renovated restaurant space will be open on weekends.

For overnight stays, the Madrone, which bills itself as “not a hotel and not a B&B,” provides dog-friendly “guest quarters” (the Kitchen, the Garden View and the Living Room) in the main complex and two units (Fallers and Loggers Cabins) at The Brambles, an adjacent hideaway in the redwoods designed around a Victorian-meets-steampunk aesthetic.
