If Southern California is on your travel schedule and you’re up for a seaside splurge, look no farther than L’Auberge Del Mar, a AAA Four Diamond property where every detail for both you and your dog is impeccably handled from the moment you check in.

The resort overlooks the Pacific and is not far from North Beach, aka “Dog Beach,” where the two of you can stretch your legs, admire the winter waves and fill your lungs with fresh salt air.

Dogs are allowed to run free under voice control here from the day after Labor Day through June 15 each year; the rest of the time they must keep their humans on a leash. Different rules apply to the Main Beach and South Beach areas, both of which allow leashed dogs except in mid-summer. For lunch and refreshments, paw your way over to Zel’s Del Mar, a casual gem of a restaurant with dog-friendly patio seating.
