Butler/Abrams Trail

Da Vall Dr & Frank Sinatra Dr., Rancho Mirage, California 92270

The Butler/Abrams Trail in Rancho Mirage runs 1.1 miles through Michael S. Wolfson Park, connecting Frank Sinatra Drive and Country Club Drive with a path that parallels the wash. It’s one of those trails where you actually feel removed from the desert town bustle even though you’re right in the middle of it, with mountain views framing both sides and golf courses visible along the route.

The pathway itself is well-maintained and wide enough that you won’t feel cramped when other walkers pass by with their dogs. The wash running alongside creates a natural corridor, and there’s enough shade from scattered desert vegetation to make it manageable even on warmer days, though you’ll still want to bring water. The elevation change is minimal, so it works well whether your dog is a young, energetic type or more of a steady-paced explorer.

What makes this trail particularly nice is how quiet it stays most days. You might see a few other people, but it never feels crowded, and dogs seem genuinely relaxed here rather than overstimulated. The ground is mostly packed dirt with some sandy sections, so paws stay relatively clean compared to some other Coachella Valley trails.

Keep your dog on leash throughout—it’s the right call here given that the trail winds through an active park area with other visitors. The entire walk takes about 20-30 minutes at a casual pace, making it perfect if you’re staying in Rancho Mirage and want a morning or late-afternoon outing without committing to a full hike. There aren’t facilities right on the trail itself, so use the main park amenities before you start.
