Corona Heights Park

Roosevelt Way & Museum Way, San Francisco, California 94117

(415) 831-2700

Corona Heights Park sits right in the heart of San Francisco with views that stretch across the entire Bay Area—the kind of vistas that make you understand why people fight over neighborhoods here. The off-leash dog area gives your dog room to actually run around and burn off energy, which matters more than it sounds after a few days in the city. You’ll see dogs of all sizes mixing together, and the crowd tends to be genuinely friendly locals rather than tourists.

The real draw is the one-mile Corona Heights Trail looping around the hill. The dirt path is stable and well-maintained, with box step staircases built in where things get steeper. Dogs can be off-leash under voice control in the designated areas, so if your dog has solid recall, this is the kind of trail where they can actually move at their own pace instead of being locked to your side the whole time. As you climb, the views get progressively better, and by the time you reach the summit you’re looking out at the whole Bay.

Fair warning: the descent toward the 15th Street tennis courts does get steep, and that’s where you’ll want your dog on a leash for their safety rather than scrambling down a hillside. The trail itself is mostly easy with gentle grades, so it’s manageable for dogs that aren’t hardcore hikers.

The wildflowers bloom nicely in spring, and the park has drinking fountains scattered around, though bringing your own water is smart since you’ll be moving around and your dog will drink more than you’d expect. On weekends it gets busier, which some dogs love and others find overwhelming. If you’re hoping for a quieter experience, weekday mornings are noticeably calmer. Parking fills up along the residential streets nearby, so arriving early matters.
