At the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea's dog-friendly reputation is Cypress Inn, the boutique hotel co-owned by Dennis LeVett and actress Doris Day. The Mediterranean-flavored inn is distinguished by a lobby with vaulted ceiling and welcoming fireplace.

You will be delighted to find that almost every guest is accompanied by a canine companion in the landscaped Garden Courtyard restaurant. Afternoon tea service is not to be missed; ditto the live, soft jazz entertainment in the Living Rooms on weekend evenings. Dogs are expected at the daily "Yappy Hour," when treats (but not drinks) are free.
