Devil’s Slide Trail

The Devil’s Slide Trail is a strenuous trail ascends from Humber Park to Saddle Junction with many switchbacks and far reaching views.

Starting at 6,400 ft. the elevation gain is 1,700 ft. From Saddle Junction, a network of trails lead to San Jacinto Peak (10,834 ft.), the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway (8,516), and Tahquitz Peak Fire Lookout (8,846 ft.).

The Pacific Crest Trail passes through Saddle Junction. This is part of the San Jacinto Wilderness area. Be sure to check out hiking with dogs from the Pacific Coast Trail Association for more information before you set out. Backpacking is allowed in the Chinquapin area between Saddle Junction and Tahquitz Peak.

Directions to Trailhead: To reach this trailhead, drive into Idyllwild on Highway 243 from I-10 in Banning, or take Highway 74 and Highway 243 from Palm Desert. In Idyllwild, turn east on North Circle Drive (at the Fort Retail Shopping Center). Proceed north for over a mile until you reach S. Circle Drive. Turn right, and then take your first left onto Fern Valley Road. Take Fern Valley Road to Humber Park (about two miles from downtown.) Park as the road begins to turn around at the trailhead and loop back on itself. Be advised that on busy weekends you need to get there early.
