Dogbone Meadow in Novato is Marin County‘s only fenced off-leash dog park, and it’s worth the drive if you’re in the Bay Area looking for a solid place to let your dog burn some energy. The one-acre space has a .2 mile concrete walking path that loops through sod turf, so there’s room to move without feeling cramped even when other dogs show up.

The park’s agility equipment gives dogs a real workout if yours likes jumping and weaving through obstacles. It’s the kind of setup that keeps active dogs engaged rather than just spinning in circles. There’s also Brian’s Place Gentle Play Area, a quieter section if your dog prefers hanging back from the chaos. That separation matters—some dogs genuinely need a calmer vibe, and it’s nice that Dogbone Meadow acknowledges that instead of forcing everyone into the same space.

The grounds are genuinely well-maintained. You won’t be dodging weeds or worrying about muddy patches after rain. There are benches scattered around and shade trees, so you can actually sit down while keeping an eye on things instead of standing in the sun for an hour. The park fills up on weekends, particularly nice weather days, so you might encounter a crowd but it doesn’t feel chaotic. That said, weekday mornings tend to be quieter if you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere.

Bring your own water—there’s no drinking fountain, so a collapsible bowl and bottle are essential, especially on warm days. The park gets busy enough that calling ahead before a weekend visit makes sense, particularly if there are any special events happening. It’s a straightforward, well-run space without pretension. No complicated rules or surprise fees, just a fenced area where dogs can actually be dogs and owners can watch them do it.
