While DogTrekker regularly updates off-leash rules, it is important to check to be sure that this area still allows voice control prior to removing your dog’s leash.
All of Pacifica’s beaches are dog-friendly, but Esplanade Beach, reached via a long set of switchback trial and stairs at the north end of Esplanade Drive near the Land’s End Apartments, is the only one officially leash-free. (It’s also one of the few off-leash beaches in all of San Mateo County!)
Rugged cliffs and soft sand combine to make this smallish hideaway it a very special place, especially at sunset. Check tide tables before going here; at high tide the beach becomes very narrow. In stormy weather it could be dangerous.
Please bring water for the two of you and pick-up bags for your pet.
