Moat to Ross Creek Coastal Trail

Moat to Ross Creek Coastal Trail

Please note that the Moat to Ross Creek Bluff Top Trail is closed from March 1 to April 30 to allow undisturbed cormorant nesting.

The Moat to Ross Creek Coastal Trail is one of the coolest trails on the Mendocino Coast. It’s managed by the Moat Creek Managing Agency (MCMA), which is a grassroots nonprofit based in Point Arena. Leashed dogs are permitted.

The trail starts at Moat Creek, and leads either to the beach (where there’s a restroom), or up the hill to the top of the bluff, where you will get a great view north to the beach far below.

The trail follows the bluff edge south to Ross Creek and the north end of Bowling Ball Beach.

Bowling Ball Beach has some of the most fascinating and incredible geology on the Mendocino Coast. Bowling Ball Beach is also a nature photographers’ paradise, especially at low tide.
