Morro Bay State Park

Morro Bay State Park

Let Morro Rock, a 581-foot-high volcanic plug and major coastal landmark within Morro Bay State Park, be your guide as you explore two dog-friendly beaches. Both beaches require dogs to be on a six-foot leash.

To the south of the rock is the harbor mouth and a gorgeous sheltered beach. At low tide the beach is a nice area for a walk. Tide pools abound at either end. Keep an eye on the rock for peregrine falcons and seagulls; both nest here in the spring.

Morro’s second dog-friendly beach is on the north side of the pier. Canines are welcome for roughly a mile (a sign on the beach will let you know when to turn back). Dogs and hikers are not allowed in the dunes in order to protect nesting shorebirds.

Dogs are not allowed on Morro Strand State Beach.

A vibrant dog park bathed in sunlight features abundant greenery with mature trees, offering ample shade for leisurely outdoor activities. In the distance is a well-equipped playground that presents an additional activity area. An inviting picnic table spreads out nearby, ideal for enjoying meals al fresco or taking relaxing breaks from play. A neatly-placed trash bin aids in maintaining the park's cleanliness for everyone's enjoyment. Dominating the scene is a generously wide dirt path gracefully curving through the expanse of grass, promising exploratory walks and lively fetch games.
