Established in 1957, Omo Ranch Tree Farm in Somerset spans 200 acres of mixed natural and plantation trees across El Dorado County’s Gold Country landscape. The farm opens Friday through Sunday starting the day after Thanksgiving and welcomes dogs throughout the property.

Walking the trails here with your dog, you’ll move through groves of pine and cedar, with the smell of fresh evergreens and the quieter rhythm of a working farm around you. There’s real space to explore—enough that you won’t feel crowded even when families are out picking trees for the holidays. The views across the property are genuine Gold Country scenery, nothing manicured or overly developed.

The farm has picnic areas scattered throughout where you can settle in with your dog and eat lunch you’ve brought along. If you want something warm, there are BBQ sites available, so grilling while your dog hangs out nearby is an option. The gift shop carries wreaths, seasonal items, and the usual tree farm supplies if you need anything while you’re there.

This works well as a holiday-season outing if you’re actually looking to cut a tree and want your dog to come along for the experience. It’s the kind of place where your dog can walk off some energy while you browse, rather than waiting in a car. The open layout means your dog has room to move, and the natural ground is easier on paws than pavement.

The weekend-only schedule through the holiday season is worth keeping in mind—this isn’t a year-round daily destination. It’s more of a specific seasonal visit, particularly if tree-cutting or wreath-shopping is on your list. Since policies and availability can shift seasonally, checking their website before heading out makes sense, especially if you want to confirm that dogs are welcome on the specific day you’re planning to visit.
