Paradise Beach sits on an oxbow bend of the river near California State University, Sacramento, and it’s genuinely one of the better spots in the area if your dog loves water. The beach itself is a calm cove where dogs can wade and swim without dealing with heavy current, which makes a real difference if you’ve got a younger dog or one that’s still getting comfortable in the water.
Getting there involves a short hike from the parking area through the Central Valley landscape. The walk isn’t strenuous—mostly a straightforward trail that takes you through the natural scenery before opening up to the beach. Once you arrive, you’ve got a genuine sandy area where dogs can run around, shake off, and do all the things dogs do at beaches. The setting is quiet enough that you won’t feel crowded, even on nicer weekends.
The water itself is the main draw here. It’s the kind of place where you can let your dog swim without worrying about boat traffic or dangerous currents. The cove setup means the water stays relatively gentle. If your dog prefers staying on shore, there’s plenty of room for fetch or just wandering around while you enjoy the scenery. The natural feel of the place—actual vegetation, natural banks instead of manicured shoreline—makes it feel less like a developed park and more like you’ve found an actual spot along the river.
Bring water for yourself since there aren’t facilities right at the beach, and plan for a bit of mud on the walk back depending on recent rain. The parking area has enough spots that you can usually find space without much hassle. This is the kind of place that works best on a hot day when your dog actually wants to cool off in the water rather than just play on the bank.
